Channels DVR Server + OpenWRT router

Here is a unique scenario/question:

Could there be a way to tweak Channels DVR server to run on an OpenWRT router?

Use case - I travel frequently, using a Netgear R7800 OpenWRT router with WiFi tethering my phone (to avoid public hotel WiFi), and use an AppleTV for TV/media content. Rather than bring another device just to run the DVR server, it would be ideal to have the Channels DVR server running on the OpenWRT router.

No transcoding or recording necessary, live TV - [just TVE tuner, no OTA] buffering/pausing (via USB storage, if needed).

To experiment, I was able to download the setup.sh, run it, but then it hangs on the install.sh script.

Would be glad to offer more insight or testing details if there is way to collect or share more information.

Addendum notes:

  • OpenWRT version is indifferent for my use, can use the 19.07.xx branch or 21.02.xx branch.
  • Hot spot data caps are not an issue (unlimited) for the TVE streams.

TIA for any insight to share.

might be easier to use a pi4 as both your wifi router and the dvr server .. would still get you the 1 device setup and you know channels will run on it no problem.
