So I have an external drive attached to my DS218play. There is a shared folder in DSM called usbshare1. But when setting up Channels DVR it doesnt show the external drive only volume1. And volume1 has no “usbshare1” or any external drive folder. What am I doing wrong? I cannot change the directory either in settings. Theres a circle with a slash when I hover over the directory path text box.
This is a bug. I suggest you complete the setup on the default storage. Once guide data is finished downloading, you can uncheck the DVR checkbox and type a custom directory into the new text box, and restart the DVR by checking the box.
Wow thanks for the swift reply. So if my shared drive is called usbshare1 in DSM then does that mean the directory I type in Channels DVR is “usbshare1” or “volumeusbshare1” ?
You can type / into the field and then click “…” to navigate around and find the right folder
Sweet! Thank you so much.
Hi. I just had to do this to get my new Shield Pro homed Channels Server to use my Synology NAS for storage. If the bug got fixed, it appears to be back.
This issue refers to dvr running on Synology. What exactly happened in your situation?
Oh, my bad. So... I had a 2017 Shield that worked like a charm, but I remember having trouble getting the usb external drive storage to work when I put Channels DVR server on it. It eventually worked, but I don't remember what I did then. I just upgraded to a new 2019 Shield Pro, and when I tried to put the server on it, it would only show me the internal storage, even though I have a terabyte devoted on my Synology NAS (DS220J - also new). I saw your recommendation for the bug and decided to try it. It worked after I completed the Channels server setup and channel discovery, then actually typed in the uri for the NAS share.

Thanks, I confirmed the issue on my SHIELD with network mounts. Fix will be in the next pre-release build.
Good job! Feel free to reach out anytime my config is test-worthy. Retired and happy to help.
