I've been reading the forum and getting more confused. My present system is HDhomerun quad tuner
and DVR server on 2011 iMac desktop with external hard drive for channels.
I would like to quit using the imac and external hard drive and use a Synology DS218+
The NAS would be in the basement next to my cable modem and switch. Do I use one of the NAS drives for Channels and can I use the other drive as my new external hard drive and move everything over?
Do I set up the NAS server using my iMac? need a little help from my friends ♪♪♪♪♪
Not quite sure what you mean here. The NAS itself doesn't come with drives. You buy two regular HDDs and put them into the NAS, and then it manages them. You can connect to the NAS from your iMac and copy files over or store files there.
Yea it has a web UI and you can access it from Safari on your mac or even your ipad
I am buying 2 2TB drives. Got it, they act as one NAS system. I'll connect up and report back...little nervous but after reading it sounds pretty easy.
You might want to go bigger on the drives. It is cheaper in th elong run to buy big now than to go through the hassle of buying bigger drives later to increase storage space.
Your mileage may vary, but that was my experience.
