Channels DVR vs Infuse for MKV movies on NAS

A couple years ago, I ripped my DVD collection to MKV format, which is stored on my NAS. There are about 150 titles, most in standard DVD format, but about 30 in UHD. I had been using Infuse on Apple TV to view them (which works great), but I recently discovered that I can use Channels DVR to view them as well.

For sake of simplicity (particularly for my family), I'm thinking about retiring the Infuse app, and just using Channels as the MKV viewer. But would this involve sacrificing anything -- for example, sound or video quality (particularly with the newer UHD titles)?

It my experience, no, they work great, and the integrated interface is very nice. Set the Playback > Advanced > Video Driver to Experimental for HDR 4K support. And once you start playing with Virtual Channels of that content, it's kind of a game-changer!

I say go for it. Maybe try it with a handful of movies first to see for yourself.

I want to say the only main difference right now is that Infuse supports various Dolby Vision profiles that Channels doesn’t support yet. Other than that I’m not sure if there’s a difference outside of Trakt support.

The technical differences are smaller but IMO there are significant differences in presentation of library content. Infuse has been around for much longer and Channels clearly has a different set of features.

At this point in time I turn to Infuse for Library content because of this and Channels is used for everything else.
