Channels for Roku?

UPDATE: The Roku app has been removed. It was an experiment. It is not and was never intended to be a supported client.

Unfortunately, Roku devices are too slow to both decode MPEG2 and deinterlace the video as well and cannot be useful as Channels clients.

I’m only receiving “On Now” (= Favorites), is this the expected behaviour for this version?

Yes favs only

Will this work with the DS216+ii ?

And if not, would a good alternative be to just set up a recording and start it a few minutes later using “play on Roku”?

Yes the 216+ii has an Intel Celeron and will work

Thanks. Will the app run on the Roku stick? I have it added and when I click “on now” nothing happens.

On Now should have icons for each show that is currently being broadcast on your Favorite channels.

So, you will need to set some channels as favorites on the DVR server.

Settings page, click on “xxx Channels” on the Basic Setup section (right side).
On next page, click on the ️ of any channel(s) to set as favorite.

Ah- I was wondering how it would know my favorites since they are different on our two ATVs. Thanks for the help!

Looks like hardware transcoder is failing. You could try switching to software.

That resolved the issue! Thanks!

Keeping my eye on this. This is fantastic news!

Do you have to pay for the DVR service to simply get the transcoding feature for Roku? What if I just wanted transcoding for the Live Streams without paying for the DVR support? Here’s hoping Channels for Android TV (Nvidia Shield & Mi Box) and Fire TV is released someday.

So far it’s been working great. I love the constant development you guys do. Thanks!

I’m trying this out with my TCL Roku TV, while running Channels DVR on my QNAP TS-451+. The Apple TV Channels app is picking up the DVR just fine, but the Roku app says it couldn’t find the DVR on my network. I’ve ensured that the Roku is connected to the same network. I’ve also tried restarting the Channels DVR service on my QNAP, no luck.

It’s possible there some sort of difference between regular Roku and Roku TV… can you check what version of Roku OS is running?

Sure.

The software version is 7.6.0 build 4127-08
The Roku TV model is 5115X
