Sorry if this is a dup, but Ive had this happen a few times and its a little annoying. If my qnap NAS restarts, channels will lose all the DVR menus. It doesnt even have to a be a restart. i checked it this morning before I left and again all of the DVR related menus are gone. I can force kill the app and still no luck. I have to completely restart the apple tv for it to work again. Once its back up, the menus are restored. Any idea why this is happening? Any chance we can get a “scan for dvr” option in the settings?
I have seen this a couple times only since the most current releases. Since this never happened before I assumed that maybe a problem on my end or just getting new app updates. But maybe this is new when some have DVR and some do not. Also, I am mainly using the App Store version until a new test version is released that makes sense to use on 1 or more Apple TV’s.
The DVR specific tabs are made to show up when it detects Channels DVR on your network, and to hide when it doesn’t see it anymore.
There may be some bugs causing Channels DVR to look as missing to the Apple TV app.
FYI… This does happen all the time and not even on multiple TV’s. So really hard to duplicate. But this morning (as normal) I go into the kitchen and turn on the TV. This morning the DVR Tabs were missing. But I normally just watch Live TV (News) anyway so no big deal. At some point the DVR Tabs started to show up again. Just letting you know I did not need to restart the App or the ATV or anything. They just started to show up.
+1 – It does refresh itself generally in less than minute. I initially was rebooting ATV 4 then refreshing the app but waiting it resolves itself. this has happened with 3 different ATV’s. and since the new update I believe 2.1.6?
Found a way to duplicate this.
- Quit the Channels App. I.E. Double tap home button and swipe up.
- Open Channels App and DVR Tabs are gone.
- Close Channels App. Hitting the Menu Key.
- Open Channels App and DVR Tabs are back.
I did this with the App Store 2.1.6 Version and the latest Channels Beta App.
My DVR is on a Mac Mini and never sleeps.
I have not been able to duplicate this since installing 2.1.7. What is strange is that also applies to the Channels Beta which did not get updated. Oh well. As long as I don’t have the problem.
This issue should be fixed in 2.1.7
I’m actually seeing a slightly different version of this happen now with 2.1.7. One of my TVs successfully sees the DVR in Channels. The other two don’t, yet all see the tuner on the network. Exiting and resterting the app / Apple TV/ DVR app hasn’t helped.
All devices are on the same network and the DVR app is running on a NAS.
Please ignore my last comment.
I had turned off Bonjour broadcasting in the DVR since I have my own DNS set up (there is a checkbox after all!). It looks like Channels needs this to find the DVR, because once I re-enabled it the other two TVs could see the DVR.
