Channels Monitoring System

Hi all!

I have a monitoring system setup for Plex called PlexPy and there is one also called Tautulli I think. Both very similar if not the same, that monitors all of my Plex statistics such as what is being watched and from where and how long it has been watched and if it is playing or paused, the name of the device and IP address, etc. There is a some functionality of those that would not apply to Channels as there are not multiple ‘users’ per se but would be nice to see the devices that are being watched on.

For instance, is my wife watching while she is out and about or kids or anything (helpful if you need to take DVR down for any reason). Also could show some statistics as to what is being watched and how often so that I can better manage what I record and keep it for certain lengths of time. As of now, I have a 5TB drive saving all of my recordings and I am pretty liberal with saving cartoons for the kids but some adult shows I keep for a while because they sit waiting for my wife or someone else to watch for instance. It would be nice to know what has been watched on which device and how long on average it took them to watch it and whether it was completed on that device.

Is there anything like this 3rd party or something built in that is available that I am unaware of?

Channels doesn’t have anything like this built in and there’s no real hooks to add it to another system.

I personally would love to be able to provide more data like this to everyone, as well as adding hooks to let you build something like this.

We’re knee deep in other projects right now but DVR will be getting more love further into the year. There’s no telling if it makes sense to fit this in, but just watch these forums since we’re pretty public about what we’re working on.

Yeah it is a great feature but not something that I would consider a must-have. Just handy to have with a larger library and multiple devices/users in the family. I will wait patiently for future updates and anything else to come to DVR.

I’ve said it before and say it again. Love the service and the Apps. I think it is absolutely the best of all of the apps and services that I use and Really could not be any happier! Thanks again!

if you have some interesting projects, solutions or apps, please do post in the community. you never know if someone is looking for that solution

@maddox Sorry to resurrect this thread from the grave, but any updates on this sort of thing? I'd love to track history/stats/etc. of my kids.

Also, is there or could there be an easy way to kill a remote connection? I've sometimes have connections left on (again by the kids) in random rooms and would love to kill them without having to restart the container/application or having to go upstairs and manually kill it off.
