Channels Not on Subscription

I have DIRECTV stream and I previously had HULU Live. I notice channels that are on the Channels Guide (more to the bottom of the guide) and not on my subscriptions. A great example is Comet, CBS News in different markets Contv etc. Do the content providers just let channels stream or what?

Those are free to stream channels that get added automatically as soon as you add one TVE source.

There have been a few requests over the past few years to create their own source for free channels. Maybe someday.

They are completely free and can be streamed independently from their respective websites.

For example, here is the link for Comet: Watch COMET TV Live - Science Fiction Movies and Shows

I have a list in a spreadsheet:

Now that I have been learning a little bit more about how Channels does the TVE stuff (I thought I knew things pretty well, but apparently just limited basics) I wonder if these 6700- 6999 channels could be made available without a TVE provider.

I guess what I am proposing is when setting up a source as TV Everywhere beta that under provider there be "None - Freely Available" that opens up only these channels. Or is there some reason that a TVE provider is necessary for Channels to utilize these streams? As these are live tv streams that are freely available to anyone, it seems a specific provider subscription is unnecessary.

Again maybe I am miss understanding something along the way. Or maybe this should be a feature request. I am sure there would be use cases for people who only use Silicon Dust Devices and/or Custom Channels.

Or you guys can stop pontificating to death and read the manual:

Extra Channels

Channels also adds in many free live TV streams that are available on the internet. We throw these in to get our fans as much content as possible.

Yup read it. And read again. I will put my suggestion as a feature request to avoid distracting from the OP.
