Channels on FIOS

I’m about to switch to Verizon FiOS. Anyone has issues with DRM?
I’m ordering ethernet connection, no cable boxes and no FiOS router, so hopefully it would just be a matter of swapping the cablecard on the SD Prime. My concern is which channels have DRM

@maddox has FIOS, as do a number of other users. Different areas can DRM different sets of channels, but from what we’ve seen generally only premium (HBO, Showtime) and FOX-related (FOX news, FOX sports) channels are DRMd (your local FOX affiliate should not be DRMd though).

This is all correct.

I too use ethernet and it goes directly into my own router. It’s an awesome setup. My local FOX affiliate works perfectly fine, but Fox News, FX, FXX, and the various Fox Sports channels are unavailable. I’m not bothered by Fox News or the FX variants being missing, but when I need to watch something on Fox Sports, I use their Apple TV app, which is actually one of the better Apple TV apps out there.

Oddly, Showtime and Epix are DRM free…

Awesome, thanks. It would then seem that cable providers don’t alter DRM codes on their own for the most part then. My current cable provider only shows some premium channels and some Fox channels also.
I’m a bit hesitant to buy anything from Verizon again but the 2-year locked-in price was too good to pass.

Word of warning:
I got Frontier FIOS and added the TV package (for use with my HDHomeRun Prime and a cablecard) and was sorely disappointed that they DRM protect almost all their channels (except for local and shopping and any ‘promo’ channels like when HBO was on free trial).

On the advice of several forums, I switched to Xfinity and now get 363 non-drm’d channels!

(if you do some googling around, you will find that when FiOS was owned by Frontier, they did not drm protect the channels, it’s when they were purchased by Frontier).
