Channels sometimes can't see external drive on Mac Mini

Hi,

I have a continuing problem with Channels every so often being unable to see the external drive it's set to record to. This has happened on two different mac minis with two different drives. The names of the files are in the recording window but say....file not found. If I unplug and replug said drive then everything comes back. I would have put this down to macmini/drive combo.....but with two different machines and two different drives?? anyone else have this?

Felix

The next time you experience this, check to see if the Mac sees the drive. See if it is mounted, and available in Finder.

Ok will do.......I think it does....but been through this so many times I'll need to check again. Thanks

Not sure if related, but I know over on Plex forums there's been an issue with latest version of MacOS causing something similar to happen. Drives disappearing...

Across the history of Mac OS X and macOS, it's had a bit of eras where it would love just unmounting drives.

The macmini in question...indeed both of them.......are running catalina...the last OS they support

Hi. it's done it again. Drive shows up on the desktop but when you try and open it it shows no files though it shows the data used

Sounds like either a macOS or Hard drive issue.

Channels DVR Server is just software that reads and writes to storage, it doesn't really interact with things at a hardware level. You may want to do some checks on the drive, or replace it.

Well. I guess it could be …. But it’s the third external drive I’ve bought ….. on the second Mac mini !! Maybe my comps are just too old ?

Have a good Xmas anyway.
