I am familiar with the browser-based speed test which allows you to test the speed between your Channels DVR server and your client [http://192.168.1.xxx:8089/speedtest]. But does such a test exist within the Apple TV client? I couldn't find it in Settings.
No, but when the app is open/active on the Apple TV, open http://${APPLETV_IP}:57000/speedtest
Open from where? Any computer on the network?
Yes. Any web browser from a computer in the same network as the Apple TV.
(Actually, it works for any Channels client app, not just Apple TV. The app just has to be running for Android, but active for Apple clients.)
That worked. Thanks! Just for future reference, for anyone else who might come across this thread - The $ is a little confusing and is not needed. It would actually be more like http://192.168.1.xxx:57000/speedtest
The ${NAME} format is common to refer to a variable of "NAME".

That doesn't mean it's not confusing. I think they're just trying to clarify for those of us that aren't programmers. It's fine, lol, everyone appreciates your help we just all have different careers.
Just be mindfull that the test is only as fast as the client you are running the test from. Its not running the test from the AppleTV to the server but your device you are running the test from to the AppleTV. That's my experience.
Is this true? I would think that since you are sending a command to the client (AppleTV in my case also) that it would initiate a speedtest between itself and the DVR server since that is the link you want to check the speed of. A speedtest between my laptop and the AppleTV seems kind of meaningless since the video data transfer is between the client and the server.
This seems to indicate speedtest is between the AppleTV and the server.
When I test my laptop to the server I get the same speed to my Apple TV, 479mbps, if I plug my laptop into Ethernet then test my AppleTV I get 940mbps..... So yes.... It is.
Yes. This is a {device accessing the speedtest url} to Apple TV Channels App speed test.
NOT, a ATV Channels App (client) to CDVR server speedtest.
That type speedtest only seems to exist on the Android platform.
Proven by using a desktop wired, 1gigabit results. A old Wifi N laptop, 150mbps.
There are speedtest apps even the one well know Ookla app for tvOS, that measures your ATV to WAN (internet) speed, however, have yet to find a self hosted style app like OpenSpeedTest that works on ATV to measure LAN to LAN.
Only 2 apps show up under that name on the ATV, by same dev it seems,. one is free, server is paid, both have shit reviews, less than 2 out of 5 stars. Thus is crap and to be ignored, imo. I also don't have a mac to run the server on. Not sure if there is a cross platform way to do this. Server on a Win box and app on tvOS. Tired finding things while back, gave up on it.
