Channelsdvr.net Constant Freeze Ups

Getting stutter while remote viewing both OTA and Cable. Works great local. Started when I disconnected and reconnected the HDHomeRun units to move some wiring. Get stutter while web viewing, on android phone the audio is fine but no picture.

On the android device, does changing to software decoder fix the black picture issue? Many android devices do not have Mpeg2 hardware decoding.

That worked for the phone issue, although I dont know how/why this issue suddenly appeared it has been operating as was for years.

Tried it on the Web side and it did not work -- so I still have that issue.

How are your DVR server, HDhomeruns, and the machine you’re viewing via the web client connected to your network? Stuttering is often network buffering. To confirm that you can look at the status page of the DVR web ui in another tab to see if the transcoder is able to go at least 1.0x.

I am getting 1.33x.

When using the web player, it will play for a few seconds, then freeze, then it will play for a few more seconds before freezing again. This behavior does not stop and is the same for OTA or cable. It is the same on or off network when using Chrome, Edge, or Explorer on a Windows PC.

Channels on my Android phone seems to be fine.

This behavior started in the last few days, and I have never had a problem previously.

I just tried HDHomeRun and it works fine, but that is only available on my direct wired PC.

Can you clarify, are you only having this when accessing your DVR remotely, or also when on your local network?

Both. But only with channelsdvr.net

I’m not 100% sure how it works if you use that URL via your local network. I’m thinking it’s smart enough to make a direct connection to the DVR (rather than going out through your internet and back in) in that case but I’m not positive. Hopefully somebody else that knows for sure can chime in.

I use it to watch TV on my laptop/computer. It has worked fine since I stood the system up five years ago.

Is there another way to access it directly? I hav never seen an app or webaddress that would allow me to do it, if you have a way let me know.

Okay, I went direct to the local IP with the DVR port and it works -- without the freezing.

I still wonder what changed, as a techie I dont like an IFM.

Not necessarily. Such a situation is called hairpinning, and it is totally dependent upon your router. (In that situation, the router sees that the outgoing connection would redirect back inside the local network, just redirects it without the traffic ever leaving your local network.)

Based on this my guess is that your router was sending the traffic out to the internet and back in… so perhaps your internet stability or bandwidth is struggling a bit lately. Using the local IP instead should ensure you always get the best performance possible.
