I'm curious how Stremium is able to have HBO, Showtime, etc... via TVE, but ChannelDVR does not. Did they Stremium make some kind of deal with the pay channel companies to allow their content?
No. Stremium is a grey market reseller of IPTV streams. It was previously called Fitzy, but they closed that down and relaunched under a new name after legal threats for copyright violations. Same shady service, but with a new name.
I figured it was something like that. Thanks.
It does allow you to add legit services, like Philo...but yea, it is shaddy overall.
A less–questionable option for getting premium content into Channels is PlayOn. While I feel their model falls within fair/personal use exemptions of copyright, who knows how much longer their services will persist. (PlayOn essentially records the stream you receive from Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, etc. Where you fall on the legality of that action is up to you, but it is much more white than black on the grey spectrum, in my estimation.)
It was more curiosity to understand why my TVE creds got me pay channels on Stremium and not Channels.
I wouldn't call Stremium shady, but Channels DVR I do consider a better service overall by far.
Simple answer is Channels doesn't support it.
Totally agree, I only really use Stremium as a backup for live TV when traveling.
