Choppy after changing channels

Hello,

I’m using a Apple TV 4k connected via ethernet. Latest version of the Channels for TVOS app. HDHR Prime with the latest firmware. Verizon FiOS cablecard.

Everything works fine when I first open the app and tune to a channel. If I switch channels, the app gets very choppy. Audio plays fine, but video drops to a frame every 3 seconds. Also, it slows down the entire app and Apple TV. Navigating menus in the app is super slow. Even after closing the app, navigating the Apple TV is slow.

I have to restart the Apple TV to get back to normal. Everything is fine after a restart until I change channels.

If I tune to one channel and leave it, everything is fine. I can switch between apps no problem, as long as I stay on that first tuned channel.

Super strange. Is it happening on local stations like fox, nbc?

Try the free app InstaTv to see if it has the same problem.

InstaTV works fine.
It does this even on local channels.

I’m sending you a beta to try. After the issue occurs go to the bottom of the Settings tab to submit video diagnostics.

Thanks for the quick response.

This sounds similar to the ongoing issue I’ve been having for the past couple months with skipping frames. It happens on H.264 channels when skipping adverts, though not always. I can’t identify a specific set of conditions in order to reproduce it. Usually pausing for a few seconds clears it. I don’t get the slowdown you’ve described though.

ATV4K running latest App Store version of Channels, all wired with gigabit Ethernet.

Should I have gotten the beta by now or are you still working on it?

I sent you the beta invite already. Check your spam folder maybe. The email is from Apple.

Could you send it again? I checked everywhere in my email, and I don’t see it.

Thanks.

Ok, I got it that time. I’ve sent the logs.

Thanks

Hi, just seeing if you’ve had a chance to take a look at this.

The logs showed nothing unusual. Can you make a video with your phone or something so I can see what’s happening?

Found out what was wrong. My appletv is connected to an Oppo 203. The Oppo was set to automatically match the chroma which was causing problems. I set the chroma to the same 4:2:2 chroma as the Apple tv and all works fine now.
