Choppy playback on Pixel 8 Pro

My server is a Synology DS1019+ and works great with two gigE wired clients - an Android TV and a Shield. Response times are consistently near instantaneous.

I have a Unifi network with multiple APs in my home. However even when standing next to an AP, I get choppy playback and erratic times for skipping forward / back (like 10 second waits) when playing back recordings on my Pixel (I rarely watch live). I'm using hardware encoding and hardware deinterlacing on the server with a 4.67GB cache and a live TV buffer of 4 hours. Here are the speed numbers from the Channels app on the phone:

  • download: 260mbps
  • latency: 6.16ms
  • jitter: 2.6ms

Log files entries for a sample session below. Any guidance appreciated.

It looks like your server is transcoding which is not what you want on your home network. Go into the phone channels app settings > playback > streaming quality > set home streaming to original.

Brilliant! I knew about the option to choose home streaming in the app but didn't realize there was a menu level below. Thank you!
