Choppy Video/Stuttering on Chromecast with GTV

Can anyone else confirm choppy/30fps-like video on Chromecast with Google TV and HD Homerun Prime (Comcast)? This is happening with 1080i broadcasts as well as 720P, just a little worse with 1080i. Tickers on CNN and Fox News are stuttering like crazy.

I've tried Beta server and clients, software decoding, etc. Smooth as butter on Apple TV 4k and latest Android TV running on the same Hisense H9G on same wifi network. All other apps on the CCwGTV running fine.

I had the same experience on a tivo 4k stream. What ended up fixing the issue was uninstallling & reinstalling the channels app.

This was resolved by enabling the "Old Transcoder" option in Settings. Anything significant I'm losing with this enabled?

Devs...any thoughts on why this was necessary with CCwGTV device? I didn't have this with TVE and the device....just Comcast from the HDHomerun Primes. Codec and something with the Channels DVR transcoder?

Huh. Are you at home? Transcoding is not used if the app is set to Home Streaming Quality: Original

Sorry for the misdirection. This post is 100% related to Home viewing only. I figured this out. I guess I introduced another variable along the way in my troubleshooting that got me off track.

Interestingly enough, my video issues were related to use of surround sound. To resolve all the stuttering and 30fps-like characteristics, I either had to disable surround sound completely on the Chromecast or in Advanced settings in the Channels client. It didn't seem to have anything to do with whether or not I have an audio device capable of 5.1. I reproduced this on every single CCwGTV with stand-alone TVs as well as sound bars/receivers that support 5.1.

Hopefully this helps someone else until some other change fixes this. I don't have this problem with any other app that outputs a surround format.

Thanks for the suggestion. Updates and reboots didn’t do anything, so I came to the support boards to look for others with the same problem but didn’t think to uninstall/reinstall the app. Duh.

This fixed my issues as well. As soon as I disabled surround sound in the channels app, the stuttering and out of sync audio went away. Thank you!
