Closed captions default to on in Web player

Not sure if I turned this on by accident or not but now every time I watch a live TV using the web player, closed captions are defaulting to being enabled. I switch them off but next time I launch the player the are enabled again. I looked for a setting in the clients tab but did not see one for CC. What am I missing?
(Running beta 2022.02.03.2057)

I found that CC was always enabled on Safari but not when using the Chrome browser. I stumbled on the fix for CC being stuck on using the DVR web UI player by doing the following:

  1. Choose the Apple menu (upper-left corner) and select System Preferences.
  2. Choose Accessibility and then choose Captions.
  3. Clear the Prefer closed captions and SDH check box. If the check box is already cleared, select the check box, and then clear it again.

In my case the SDH checkbox was already cleared so I did what step 3 says and checked then unchecked the box. Problem solved!

I am running
Safari - Version 16.6 (18615.3.12.11.2)
MacOS - Ventura 13.5.2

I have tried changing the setting. I have tried changing the setting and then restarting Safari. I have not rebooted since it is an ordeal, I have vm and docker containers running.

Still didn't fix for me. Any ideas?

Having the same issue. Solution provided did not change. Anybody else have this problem and resolve it? Is it an issue with the how Channels is defaulting in the web player? I find no setting in Channels to disable this from auto launch. Kind of annoying. Should be off by default and enable when needed.

As listed in the solution of this thread, this is a Safari issue. It is a years long bug that they have never addressed. It's very frustrating and it happens across the web like on Apple's site and YouTube.
