Is there a way to add a pass to a collection? This seems like a natural way to work when one has a pass for a show and no recordings.
No, that is not presently possible.
Passes are for things that might happen. A particular airing may actually be matched by multiple passes depending upon your rules and the priority ordering. Collections are for actual existing recordings.
An often requested feature is the ability to run actions or scripts after a recording completes, but as of yet such a feature does not exist.
