Commercial detection not working on HEVC recordings

I've made a couple test recordings of ATSC 3.0 channels, and it appears commercial detection doesn't currently work.

Can you email [email protected] with the comskip.log from http://192.168.1.21:8089/dvr/files/531/comskip.log

Hmm, I can see the file in my web browser, but I can't figure out how to download it. I'll need to use SCP when I get home to copy it from my server.

You might be able to select file>save in your browser

I tried that, but the resulting file is html rather than the contents of the log.

I would just copy/paste, but the file is incredibly long.

Took a minute, but I figured out a way to download remotely. File emailed as requested.

Got it, thanks.

There is a lot of work happening on the HDHR firmware side, and some of the streams are currently being mangled by the HDHR during reception which is causing these problems.

There's a new firmware today (20201022) which should help.

I'll update the firmware this evening and see if anything is improved. I know it's early days, and we're basically beta testing brand new broadcast standards. I bought the tuner purely for the fun of participating in this process.

Here too in Las Vegas. Not commercial detection and no closed caption display too. Using the latest firmware

I'm now using some ATSC3 channels and notice some recordings aren't getting comskipped so I assume this issue hasn't been fixed yet? Is there anything else I can try to troubleshoot?

It's hit and miss on atsc3. I usually get about 25% success rate...

comskip doesn't work with 10-bit video. It's going to require quite a bit of work to make that possible.

This thread has a workaround shared by a user, the only caveat is that it's slow. I can live with that, I usually don't watch recorded shows till a day or two later anyway. Certainly better than no comskip at all!

Possible improvements coming in v2022.02.08.2018

I don't have a lot of ATSC3 recordings, so please try it out and let me know if its better.

You should be able to hit Redetect Commercials on an old recording and see if the markers are better afterwards.

Please share the log line from before and after, showing how long commercial detection took and how many markers were found in the old version and new.

I didn't have any old atsc3 recordings but I just scheduled 3 over the next 2 hours. I'll let you know how she works...

For reference i5-10400 with 4 threads enabled for commercial detection. Typically detection takes about 1min 30sec for an hour show. This show is 30min. The good is it picked up 4 markers when it had zero markers before. Haven’t been able to check accuracy though

Pretty accurate on my side. I recorded 3 different shows and everything worked great. Took about 8min for a 30 min show. Normally it takes less than a minute using 7 threads on my i7 but the time difference is no big deal at all.

Great. I'm uploading v2022.02.08.2301 which should improve performance a bit.
