Commercial Detection on Imported Content

There is a show that i have imported into Channels that has an interview segment that I don't want to watch when they are in a Virtual Channel.

Every import has the option to "Redirect Commercials" so i had the idea that if i run compskip on the file, i would be able to mark the interviews as commercials in the commercial editor after comskip is ran so it can magically skip the interviews when the episode is playing in the Virtual Channel.

after compskip is ran, i see that there is no commercial editor, so comskip ran for nothing.

what is the purpose of the "redirect commercials" drop down on imported content?

i know i can edit the file and remove the part i dont want, but i rather not manipulate the file.

can the ability of the comercial editor be an option for imported content?

thanks.

Did comskip find commercials?

no, because there aren't any. my thinking was if i ran the commercial scan, the editor would show so i can mark the parts i want as a commercial, but it didnt.

this particular show is in 4k if that matters.

I have tried what you're describing. What I have found is that if comskip doesn't find what it thinks is a commercial in the file then it won't do anything. It looks for certain patterns that are inherent in shows when a commercial starts and ends.

I had the idea of using it on some shows I have ripped that don't have commercials but hoping it would think the show intro for example is a commercial. Kind of like how Plex has an Intro Skip option.

It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I think there is a way to change the settings for comskip but not sure how all that works either.

that was my thought as well, do a poor man's intro and credits skip.

That is the exit status I always see when it doesn't detect any commercials.

If you only have a few imports that you want to put your own markers in, why not just put a sidecar edl file next to the imported file with the time markers you want.

You could copy an existing edl file and edit it.

Channels DVR will import sidecar edl files. I think a Refresh Metadata would work?

The contents of an edl file is simple
A list of ad markers in seconds.hundreths
AdBegin AdEnd

0.00	64.53	0
771.00	836.20	0
1161.88	1449.82	0
1948.98	2259.64	0
2636.95	2909.39	0
3427.41	3747.64	0

I have done this as well. It does work pretty good, but it's a more hands on approach. Like chDVRuser said, could work if you only have a few imports, not for something like the entire Animated Batman series. lol
