Compatible with Buffalo LinkStation?

I’m really happy that the Channels DVR is now available in the U.K. and I’m trying to figure out the most affordable way of using Apple TV 4th Gen as a DVR.

I’ve found a very reasonably priced NAS called the Buffalo LinkStation (http://www.ebuyer.com/630708-buffalo-linkstation-ls220d-2tb-2-x-1tb-2-bay-desktop-nas-ls220d0202-eu). Can anyone help me work out if this would be compatible?

Thanks

It’s not on the compatibility list.
It’s under the 1GHZ CPU minimum.
I don’t see that it supports installing apps.

Look for something with a 1GHZ or greater celeron/pentium or buy a used PC, like an off-lease. You will be happier in the long run.

In the meantime, try running it on an existing mac or PC

Depends how you plan on using Channels but if only at home (Apple TV or iPhone/iPad) then a Raspberry Pi with a 128gb sd card works well for me.

I would agree with @danielkrice that a raspberry pi would be better
the raspberry runs open version of linux, where the buffalo is closed

A Pi3 is a quad-core 1.2Ghz ARM8 and the specs for that specific Buffalo are 800mhz ARM7 Dual core. Since we know the limits of an RPi, you can infer how much more limited that box would be.

Another benefit is a RPi3 with case, powersupply and 128gb sd is only $95us.

I love the idea of the Pi! The thought of having to buy a cheap and nasty Windows box just to make a DVR work on Apple TV was sad…

The required spec says that you need 512gb of storage for the DVR. Does it work ok with 128gb?

Thanks

Tim

You probably want to attach a 1tb or 2tb USB drive for recordings, but it depends how much you plan to record. An hour show is about 12gb
