Confirm channel change/exit app when you have paused live TV

When you have paused live TV, the app should ask to confirm when changing channels or when exiting as not to loose what you have on buffer (recorded).

Many times I’m behind live TV because I have used the pause function, and have mistakenly changed channels or exited the app and have lost what I had paused.

Also would like to see this. How many times I have hit menu by mistake only to loose all playback…

Thanks, this is great feedback. I’ve updated the app for the next version to fix these issues. While the video player is paused, the Menu button and the double-click command will be disabled.

Disabling change of channel and menu button functions while playback is paused will only fix half of the issue I think. The other common problem is where you’re playing, not paused, but are running behind live TV within the buffer. If you change channel or press menu then the same problem arises. Hence the suggestion for some kind of ‘are you sure?’ type dialogue in those circumstances.

I agree with jmdraper. I cant tell you how many times Ive had something paused, I come back to start watching. I push the right side of the remote to advance however many seconds and I accidentally tap too fast and the app thinks I want to jump channels. If you are at all not live it should have some way to prevent you from changing channels

Indeed. A confirmation stage / dialogue box when exiting a channel not at the live-point (whether currently playing or paused) is definitely required. The Siri-remote makes it far too easy to accidentally exit and lose everything that’s been buffered. I don’t think this is really a failing of the remote hardware, as it was never designed for this function.

One of the founding brand principles of Apple / Mac OS was that of ‘forgiveness’, hence the Trashcan and the ability to retrieve what you’d thrown away. Right now, whenever I’m watching buffered content via Channels I eye the remote with great wariness…

For the next version (v1.5.9), we have disabled the “double click to jump channels” and moved that feature to require a double click of the Play/Pause button.

This should further reduce the chances of accidentally losing your buffer when trying to skip forward/backwards with the Siri remote.
