Connecting to a second tv

Hello, I’ve been using channels for several months now and love it… I just recently purchased a second Apple TV for my secondary tv. I was wondering if I would have any issues tapping into the same HdHomerun via my second tv? Will I only be able to view channels on one tv at a time or will I have the option to have channels running on both tvs simultaneously?

My HD homerun is a connect.

Thanks!

The CONNECT has two tuners so you can watch on two TVs at the same time.

Thank you!

just wondering, for the Apple TV veterans out there.

is it possible to have two Apple TV’s operating side by side to have two channels up on two tv’s?

Each Apple TV will take 1 Turner and play via HDMI to a TV. So yes, as long as you have an available tuner and available HDMI you would be fine. I have 2x Prime (CableCard) so I can play from 6 Apple TV’s to 6 TV’s at the same time. No matter where they are located. Your only concern would be Band Width. I.E. Using Wifi or Ethernet.

Just in case I missed something. You can not split screen. On 1 channel per Apple TV.

Yes it is possible to have multiple AppleTVs running side-by-side.

I have an AppleTv in the family room and another about 15 feet away in the kitchen. Both can be watching the same or different channel at the same time off a single SiliconDust tuner as the current models all support 2 or 3 tuners each. If you are trying to watch the same channel you may have to turn down the volume on one as they do get out of sync.

Actually I have 4 4th gen AppleTvs in the house and 2 HDHomeRun Extends and have had all 4 using Channels at the same time without problems. I will note that all my AppleTvs are wired. You might have issues with smooth playback using wireless as you would be pushing a lot of data over a wireless network unless you have Extends and using transcoding.

is there a problem with the remotes with the boxes so close together?

No. ATV4 remotes are setup to work with a specific device. Great feature is they will control the television as well (on/off and volume up/down). ATV remotes are now the primary remote for our televisions. I’ve stashed the television specific remotes away which means people aren’t changing television settings by accident.

No more instances of my carefully configured TV ending up in vivid mode or color settings all messed up. Back in the Directv days the receiver would regularly end up in 480 resolution.

And one of the best things about SD hardware is that it is really easy to add more devices to get more tuners.

In my case I have 4 primes, 1 extend (and other whitebox HDHRs) since Channels follows the SD guidelines for tuner discovery/sharing, it is possible to have Channels use as many tuners as available (free/not used by other devices) and release the tuners for other devices (be it other channels software or SD software) or DLNA for those that support it.
