Custom Channel for Authenticated url

Can someone help me understand how to add a custom channel from the following url source which also requires me to add username and password for Spectrum: https ://spectrumnews1.com/oh/cleveland/live-video/watch_spectrum_news_live
It works fine in a browser when authenticated.

Can i just use the 'add source' / 'custom channel' from the settings page? What is the proper syntax for adding username/password and where do I put it? If I have to add M3U text, how do i do it? I have not used M3U in the past and it is hard to find documentation / information. Thanks!

Just wanted to add that I've read the info at Channels Support - Add Custom Channels with M3U Playlists and tried a wider web search. However, did not see anything regarding username/password. Perhaps @tmm1 can help?

Channels does not support DRM protected streams, which the Spectrum news stream uses.

You could try the "standard" way to add username and password in the url, like:

https://USERNAME:[email protected]/oh/cleveland/live-video/watch_spectrum_news_live

replace USERNAME and PASSWORD with your credentials (leave the ":" and "@" as shown).

Try this in a browser first, to verify it works.

EDIT: if it is DRM, then, like noted, it will not work in channels :frowning:

The "standard" method did not work in a browser. Not sure if there is another authentication method within the URL that would work. Perhaps not. Also, as racameron mentioned, if it is DRM, wouldn't work with Channels anyway.

Thanks for your input. Well, can always airplay to Apple TV for the high school football broadcast.
