Custom Channel Logos Feature be added

With all the great added features with custom channels, Is having the capability to customize Channels DVR channel logo images in the future soon. In particular for local broadcasters. Your choice of EPG provider has been doing a poor job with them lately. My local market broadcasters in Birmingham are always changing but your EPG provider does not update for months or never update. I have numerous Channel logo missing either because the station is an independent channel and the call letters don't exist with your provider. Also your provider color scheme for logos do not go well with the purple color scheme. I tried doing my own customization using another Channels DVR on my network using Custom channels and setting it up as a tuner. Only issue I found is I can't see the station logo images from outside of home, only in home. Plus in home I can't see them with your server address https://mychannelsdvr:8089, only by this address http://mychannelsdvr:8089. Please implement a way for logo images customization so my guide will not look so junky.
EXAMPLE PHOTOS:
This Logo Changed after the down time Tuesday plus can barely read the text:

Independent Broadcaster but provider has no logo to pull. I have one ready to go for this Station:

White Logo over the color scheme would be better. Colored would be preferred

Result of Tuesdays outage.

I'm sorry to vent here but after the server outage this week things are not actually working like before. Especially for local broadcasters. I like to customize with their logo instead of the national networks logo

The guide in the browser (UI) not any better: White logos on white background not good.

Channels DVR Web UI Guide:

My Custom Guide: Event better in the client app

I think there should be a way to implement this separately on Web UI and the Client Apps.
I use Emby Beta and they have implemented this in the latest beta update. Logo images don't disappear when server communications are lost.

Although I hate to agree with a Bama fan (jk....kinda), I would like to resurface this request as I would like to have this functionality built into the web admin portal. I upgraded my antenna and I am now picking up Baltimore and occasionally DC channels as well as my local market Harrisburg, PA. It would be nice to put a custom logo for stations where I get both (as an example, WPMT and WBFF which are both FOX).

I found another post similar to this where it was identified you had to do through a custom M3U which seems to be redundant (Server A that Feeds Server B and requires modification of the M3U links) so that Server B can feed it out to the clients.

I believe there is the ability to use custom logos for virtual and I believe movie art (could be wrong on that one though) so hoping this is feasible and can be added to the enhancement list.

Thanks,

Jay

P.S. Sorry for the loss Kenny, that one stung I'm sure.

The best way to customize channel logos is to create a new custom channel. I called mine "Logos".
Note** If you want the logos to be viewed remotely, You have to access them via https://
Note** I could not get this configuration to work on iOS Clients. Only Androids.
I abandoned the 2 Channels DVR mentioned earlier in the post.

Set it as top priority and make sure none are checked as favorites.

Then your custom logos should appear in the guide in the WebUI and Clients

Must say Kenny has discovered/developed a great way to personalize our guides. I'm older and recall some of the older logos associated with certain stations and this allows me to apply those retro logos. An example:

And examples where I could use the local logo vs. the generic network logo:

It's a bit of a manual process and I'd love for the devs to consider providing a point and click environment similar to what we do with the Virtual Channels, but until then, I'll use Kenny's solution.

Maybe this is old news, but I was happy to find that Kenny’s method, above, which was mentioned to work only on Android devices, does work on my Apple TVs, at least for now (I rebooted and it still worked, so I hope it’s not a temporary thing). It doesn’t work on my iOS devices, though.

I put a “Logos” custom channel at the top of my source list, with channel info, but no actual video info (is m3U the right term?) — just the image and channel info, like this:

#EXTM3U

#EXTINF:-1 channel-id="1" tvg-id="3001" tvg-chno="3001" tvg-logo="http://www. mypersonalwebsite.com/images/tvlogos/wgal8.png?w=360&h=270" tvc-guide-stationid="11458" tvg-name="WGAL" group-title="Favorites",NBC

#EXTINF:-1 channel-id="cbs" tvg-id="6003" tvg-chno="6003" tvg-logo="http://www.mypersonalwebsite.com/images/tvlogos/cbs21.png?w=360&h=270" tvc-guide-stationid="30783" tvg-name="WHPDT" group-title="Favorites",CBS

I set the custom channel to get the channel number and logo from the M3U. I didn’t touch any of my other sources. The logos all reside on my own personal server, accessible over the Internet. I didn’t try to store them locally to see if that would work, too.

I've added this little bit of custom logo magic to OliveTin-for-Channels, in the most recent build of bnhf/olivetin:latest (aka bnhf/olivetin:2024.02.21). And, here's the process to make it happen via OliveTin:

Create a "Channel Collection" containing only the channels for which you want to override their logos. The collection can be named whatever you like -- I'm using "Logos":

Gather the custom logos you'd like to use, which can either be .png or .jpg files. Name them with their CDVR channel number (shown in parenthesis in the above screenshot). Navigate to DVR - Manage - Images, and upload them. They can be added as a drag-and-drop group -- note the two I added at the bottom of the second screenshot:

Go to the OliveTin "Generate a Channels DVR M3U Playlist" Action:

screenshot-htpc6-2024.02.21-12_13_50

Select your DVR (if you have more than one), then add the collection name -- Logos in my case. And the final requirement, is to use a "filter" of "logos" (all lowercase).

Click "Start" and you should see a brief "Success!" message on the Action button (Note that this process can take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes depending on the number of sources and channels you have). Navigate to logs, and you'll see your generated M3U including the custom logos:

This M3U can now be added as a new Channels DVR source using either the "text" copy-and-paste method, or the M3U you just generated is hosted on a URL at http://<host:port>/<dvr-port>/<collection>.m3u (Note the "-" between your CDVR host and port, rather than the usual ":") . You can verify that, if you like, using your browser:

Add a new Channels DVR source, and drag it to the top of your list of sources:

Once guide data is done updating, you should be able to confirm your custom logos are being used:

screenshot-media-server6_8089-2024.02.21-12_50_31

IMPORTANT: If you're starting over, or updating your collection of channels with custom logos, you'll want to delete any existing "Logos" source before you generate your new M3U -- otherwise you'll see duplicate channel number matches in your M3U.

EDIT: I've made one small change to the static-file-server part of the current OliveTin stack, to better support multiple DVRs for this and future Actions. Check the first post in the OliveTin thread to be sure your stack is up-to-date, and includes static-file-server.
