Custom Source Looses provider on any text edit

I'm playing around with custom sources that use an M3U that links to HDHR Quattros, rather than use them directly, so that I can customise some of the channel numbers.

I am pasting the adjusted M3U data into the text box. Then I set the provider (UK Freeview in my case) and make adjustments in Manage Lineup for the channels I have changed so that they get the correct EPG data. All good.

But, if I need to edit anything in the M3U data, it looses the provider information and I have to select it again and therefore redo any adjustments I have make in the Lineup. It seems to treat any edit as if I was starting from scratch.

Should this happen?

If your pasted text does not contain unique channel-id tags, then I think this behavior would be expected.

Let me put forth a better idea:

  • Setup your HDHR within as a regular source input for Channels
  • Verify that all channels are properly mapped to the correct stations
  • Export the M3U of your HDHR from Channels
  • Take note of the tvc-guide-stationid tag in the exported M3U
  • When you create your own M3U to remap channel numbers, add the tvc-guide-stationid tag to your playlist

By supplying the guide data to use directly in your playlist, Channels will now automatically map the channels to the correct guide data every time you make a change.

(After you have the correct StationIDs for your guide data, you can remove/disable the HDHR source; setting it up is just a quick way to get the requisite StationIDs to add to your manual playlist.)

That sounds like a great idea. I wish I had thought of that before I spent the last couple of hours trying to remove the damn HDHRs as sources

Even with the provider removed from them they still seemed to be having some effect on the channel names on the system. I was surprised there wasn't a simple remove button for them and ending up, after a lot of searching on here, having to use a curl command to get rid of them. Actually they then reappeared later on again anyway and I had to remove them a second time. I might manually add one back and try as you suggest.

Any ideas for permanently deleting them once I have finished the process?

The HDHR tuners? No, you cannot remove them. They are auto-discovered and added automatically. To ensure they cannot be used for recording, just do not assign them a postal code or guide data. For the clients, you can manually disable them in the settings.
