Has anyone had any success with using a DAS to store channels recordings on? I’m looking at something along the lines of the Drobo C5.
I have a PC that I use to run Channels DVR but I need a storage solution and don’t think I need a full fledged NAS. I already have a low powered Synology NAS for local backup of our photos and files, it’s not robust enough to run Channels DVR and transcode for remote viewing. Looking for options and recommendations on a DAS.
I went this route for a while attached to my Mac Mini running PLEX and Channels. Over priced for my needs but wanted to also try it for a work thing. And I wanted a RAID Solution.
It was a mistake mainly because it was noisy. I even sent back for a replacement. I passed it on to someone else after using for about 1 year.
I am very happy with my Synology NAS DS1019+ and DS918+ solutions.
Noise wouldn’t be an issue for my setup. I have all of my equipment in a network rack in a spare room in my basement. The only devices hooked to my TVs are Apple TV’s.
Currently, I have internal desktop hdd’s hooked up with SATA to USB adapters and my drives are sitting bare on some adhesive rubber feet attached directly to them - not exactly a secure setup, lol. I have three of them plugged in via USB 2.0 to my Alienware Alpha PC running Windows 10. I’m looking for an easy plug and play solution without the need for another NAS.
I’ve liked drobo. I have two 5Ds for years and years.
