Day 1 questions

Hello! I previously heard of Channels but I finally decided to give it a try. It's really impressive. Can't wait for my hdhomerun to arrive so I can add that to Philo. I have a couple questions that I haven't been able to find the answer to.

When viewing your own movie library, is there a way to organize sequels so that they only show up as one item? For example, if I have 37 Fast and Furious movies (don't judge), I don't want to have to scroll through them all.

Are there dummy guides to Docker? This is the first I've heard of it. That looks like the only way to get YouTube TV to work right now.

Are there any repositories of custom channels people have created?

Thank you

You can organize them into collections, but they won’t be flattened in the library when viewing by movie. Be sure to have the DVR pre-release and these are only in the tvOS / iOS betas right now.

How do you have 37 Fast and the Furious movies? There’s only like 9. I’m so curious.

Thank you for the reply. I guess my cheeky sarcasm doesn't translate well to writing. I'm not sure why I keep buying those movies. The first one was the only really good one.

I have a lot of different movie franchises. Collections is a nice feature but it doesn't help when searching a long list without a particular movie in mind.

So far I am really enjoying this program. There is a lot of features to learn.

Could you explain your use case in more detail? I'm curious why Collections can't solve the Franchise problem. I believe franchises is what most people are using Library Collections for. MCU, Back to the Future, Star Wars, etc.

Once they're in a collection, then you can just scroll through your collections to see them all.

You mentioned "doesn't help when searching a long list without a particular movie in mind". Could you go into more detail with this?

I tend to just scroll through my movie library aimlessly looking for something to watch. It’s cleaner to just see Rocky one time instead of 8 times, especially for a large collection.

It’s not a huge deal. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. I’m trying to set it up as complete as I can before I tell the wife I’m changing how we watch TV.

There are lots of posts about Docker and how to get Channels running in it. You would have to move your channels installation into Docker which adds an additional layer of complexity, so I’d avoid that, especially if you’re not techy. I assume you’ve already tried to add YTTV? Have you tried a dedicated family account with MFA disabled? What device are you currently running the software on?

I'm using Windows 10. I did try to add it already but get an error saying that the browser may not be secure. I tried allowing less secure apps under the Google settings but I did not try making a new account yet. My ultimate goal is to get rid of YouTube TV but figured I'd add it while I still have it. I may just get rid of it sooner. The price has nearly doubled since I got it. They got rid of my local sports channel and now they are having other disputes.
