Default setting for captions?

Every time I use the Channels web app on my M2 MacBook, the captions default to On. Actually, the only options are "off" and "unknown" which to me sounds like a bug. But apparently unknown acts the same as On . Is there a way to default it to Off?

Unknown just means it doesn’t have a title for the track.

This happens to me on video players all over the web including YouTube. I suspect it’s some kind of system setting, but I haven’t figured out what it is.

Is it possible to change logic behind the web player to just have it default it to Off regardless of the browser?

There is no logic. The decision is made by the browser.

OK... Maybe this is a MacOS bug. I found this setting, and it was already off. But I guess my computer really just likes captions. Thanks anyway!
