Hey

Can you try the TestFlight beta app?
That's great! About 3 seconds on a HD channel. Even Lucy got excited!
Diagnostic FYI, but to be honest this is very useable now.

Thank you Aman. Especially on your weekend....
Great work Aman!
Is the same fix easy to apply to Android?
FYI. Hopefully I'm not the bringer of bad news and this is unrelated, but watching ITV HD on the Testflight version has given me 3 x stops during viewing. First one gave a lost connection error, second two just a pause for a couple of seconds and then playing again. I've not experienced this before with production version.
Diagnostic following 3rd pause: df093c0e-ec17-4d49-9719-d8e3403d951a
I'm now testing the Android alpha so I don't know what, if any, changes relating to this issue are in that, but I think the average channel change time might be better than it was. It is very variable though, sometimes now it can be as quick as 2 or 3 seconds, then later going to the same channel it can be back to 8 or even fail completely.
I had one fail that said Connection Lost Recording Corrupted(-16)
Diagnostics submitted for that one 72efb050-e578-431f-ba1e-8add927fbe55
The same fix went into both apple and android betas three days ago.
The fix applies only to tuning so I don't think connection loss would be related..
Failed tunes I saw in your samples were completely broken, as if the tuner itself was not locking onto the signal. I would suggest firmware update.
I will try a firmware update, but I don't understand how the exact same m3u file works perfectly in VLC if it is an issue at the Vu end? Also I've never had any tuning issues on the Vu itself for the channels in the m3u.
@tmm1 I've just updated the firmware on the Vu to the latest.
I have set up screen recording on my Linux Desktop with VLC and my Study Shield TV 2017 running Channels Alpha app. They are both in the same room, hardwired into the same 4 way switch which is then cabled back directly to the router where the DVR Server is connected. The Vu box is in another room but also hardwired, via another 4 way switch, to the router.
I have loaded the exact same M3U file that the Channels Custom Source uses into VLC and uploaded the screen recordings of channel hopping within the m3u for both to your DropBox
You can see a big difference in channel loading time between the 2 and on one channel hop Channels loses the connection completely.
Hi Aman. Just dropping you a line to say that all is still good. Can't speak for Geoff, but for me this one's closed.
Thanks again for spending the time to sort for us.
Gareth
Not so good here, unfortunately
Not sure if it's the fact that I'm on Android rather than Apple, or something odd in my system, but I am still having large delays changing channels and sometimes connection lost Recording Corrupted (-16) messages. Sometimes it is quick enough to change, but it isn't reliable enough to get WAF as it stands really.
The same m3u works fine on VLC so I don't know what the issue is. I'm thinking of switching to a bespoke Sat-IP solution.
Well this is weird, in a good way.
I've been switching between various versions of the Android channels client app, using the standard, beta and alpha over the last few days. I'm currently running the alpha.
I haven't been testing the Vu satellite feed in that time, but I've just tried it again today and everything is working much more smoothly. Channel changes are 3/4 seconds max and no errors have popped up at all. I haven't changed anything on the Vu since I did the firmware update over a week ago which didn't make any difference at the time, and don't think the alpha version has changed since the last time I tested it either.
But, whatever has happened, fingers crossed, it is working fine at the moment.
I've just remembered something that might be a clue to the change - we had a very short power outage a couple of days back.
My Channels server and some other vital stuff is on a UPS, but the client Shields and the Vu satellite box aren't, so they all rebooted. Maybe that accidentally kicked the tyres in the right way?
Hey Aman. Just upgraded to the latest production release. If anything, seems quicker than the testflight release. Thank you again for spending your time helping a very small minority of your customers. Very much appreciated, and an attitude that I hope brings you great reward in the future. All the best. Gareth
