Right now I’m using an Apple TV and don’t like the way apps don’t time out and start from the beginning. I had a Fire tv which I believe did that. Does Android tv time out The app also?
I don't really understand what you mean. Could you be a bit more explicit or provide more info on what exactly you are looking for?
On the Apple TV. Apps never close. Like if I’m watching something on my Dvr and come back the next day, it’s still on the Dvr show. That behavior is the same with all apps. I remember the Fire tv would time out if you go back in it reloads the app.
You’re asking that after say 8 hours with the app in standby, it automatically will open to the main app start screen and not back to the last show you had open in recorded tv or whatever screen you were last in?
I get it, and that would be a nice option.
Exactly. I don't know if the Android tv app does that.
Channels on iOS and Apple TV, starting with 4.0, actually does something like this, but for inactive sections. It resets them. The idea is to prevent what you’re describing, going back to that section and being mid session in a browse.
We could maybe have an option to have the current section reset too after background info too long.
You might also want to look at the new feature added to the Apple TV and iOS apps, Start Up sections.
This lets you define what section shows every time you launch the app.
Thanks, I'm in settings. I see

Edit I reset the settings by swiping away the app and restarted. I set it to startup live tv on a certain channel played a DVR show hit menu waited 5 minutes and it was still on the DVR show.
You’re in the Support section of Settings.
Go one level up and go to General
Ok I got it working. It now starts at live tv, but if I got back it goes to the DVR show page, not the guide.
It only kicks in if you’ve left that app for more than 60 seconds.
I have and use both Android TV and Apple TV and as far as I can tell they both work about the same... just like iOS and Android phones. They are going to keep running apps until you close them or they need the space or something. I haven't ever really paid attention but if you wait long enough I think you find them gone on both. The one thing you may be experiencing is that the Apple TV is a much more powerful platform with more RAM, so it switches apps much quicker and can generally keep things going better. So if you found an Android platform that wasn't keeping things running then it would likely be slow and sluggish.... just my opinion.
