Discovery Channel video quality

Has anyone noticed that the Discovery channel is now extremely poor quality video, with normal audio? I can watch live on "https://go.discovery.com/channel/discovery", with perfect quality, however I've noticed that the video is terrible as of last night.

After reading your message, I recorded one show from Discovery to check the technical specs and they look really good:

However, the picture is all messed up. They are streaming a bad picture with good streaming specs. :laughing:

Yeah, I would say they have a problem.

I'll submit a help ticket with them later.

Kind of reminds me of scrambled analog premium channels on my Scientific Atlanta cable box

Thanks, guys. I see that there is now a problem with the website video as well. I thought it was OK earlier, but what I'm observing is that commercials are perfect, and the "show" looks like what you see.

I opened a ticket with Discovery, but they don't believe me. (I sent a video from my phone) More tickets describing this issue would be helpful.

Guess they forgot to disable the Van Gogh filter on their encoder?

I had this same issue a few weeks ago but it resolved itself within a few hours. It was definitely the feed from their web page

I was laughing until seeing its happening ATM on Bering Sea Gold (recording). Not laughing now.

I noticed the same issue last night as well while trying to watch Discovery channel. I submitted a trouble ticket at https://gohelp.discovery.com/hc/en-us with screenshots of the bad macroblocking.

They asked me to try several different devices and clear cache and cookies. Standard helpdesk stuff.
Still was bad when I went to bed. This morning I got an escalated response saying they couldn't replicate the issue. I checked and it was fixed. Whatever they did, its all good now! :slight_smile:

I had the same problem, but my backup copy on Fubo was fine, and the TVE copy from the second showing at 1am was back to normal.

I'm seeing that it's fixed for me too. Thanks for opening tickets with them. They never did follow up with me after the initial "We don't believe you" questions.

Hopefully they won't jiggle the handle too hard, and the fix remains there.

I saw this thread last night during the broadcast of Bering Sea Gold and my recording was distorted too. I started to watch Bering Sea Gold through the Philo app on VoD. I was quickly reminded how much I loath unskippable commercials and bailed out of the app. I scheduled another later recording in Channels DVR at 11PM and it recorded fine with skippable commercials.
