I have a few issues with my channels DVR system that I'm hoping people can help me resolve.
The system was running well until I had a lightning strike in the late summer and it took out one Apple TV and also the Ethernet port on the Mac Mini I was using as the server. I replaced the Apple TV with an old one I had and ended up buying a new Mac Mini M4 after using the old Mac on wireless for a while. Here is where I'm at currently.
The video hard drive is an external 12 TB Seagate and when I replaced the Mac I also bought another hard drive and have been using Carbon Copy Cloner to make a backup of my recordings. What I have noticed is the backup drive is showing about 2 TB more free space than the primary drive. I think at some time in the past I deleted some recordings using disk manager instead of using the Channels app to do it and that may account for the discrepancy in the space. Does anyone know if there is a way to get this reconciled. If worse came to worst, I could always make the backup the primary.
The next problem I am having are random screen freezes when I turn on my living room TV. It only happens about 1 in 5 times, but is very annoying when it does happen. I use the Apple TV remote and turn on the Apple TV and it in turn turns on the TV and goes straight into live TV at the channel it was on when turned off. I am able to exit the frozen screen and everything works fine but going into live TV freezes the screen every time and I have to reboot the Apple TV to get it to work again. I have tried clearing channels from memory and restarting the app but that doesn't help and either does rebooting the TV. I've updated the app to the latest pre-release, but nothing was any better.
Finally, on the TV that I replaced the Apple TV on with an older model, it has very choppy video for about a minute or so when I first play a recording back. The sound is fine, but the video seems to play for a half second and freeze for about the same time until it all of a sudden synchronizes. This Apple TV is an HD model with a 100 Mbs Ethernet port and the speed test shows 93 Mbs. I can change it to wireless and get it up to about 350 Mbs, but it doesn't make any difference, except maybe it syncs a little faster. The other Apple TV is in my living room entertainment center, and it works fine but it is the latest version of Apple TV. I've played around with the playback rates and it didn't really make much difference that I could tell. Any ideas?
