Do you still need a subscription service

To get the free TVE channels

Yes, you need the Channel DVR software running which requires a subscription.

Is that true? I was under the impression you need some sort of cable or cable alternative service to get the free channels

Yes, you also do need at least one TVE source, but even a free Sling TV account gets you the free channels.

Not sure everyone is on the same page. You can get free channels from Pluto, Stir(sp?) and several others. They aren't your typical OTA or Cable channels, but lots of content (TV and Movies).

The OP specifically asked about TVE (TV Everywhere) channels, though. This is specific and different from the Pluto/Stirr type sources out there.

(and a Channels DVR subscription is required to integrate those, too)

And you would be correct.

Yes all TVE is served through the Server therefore it requires a subscription to setup a server.

I have Pluto running in Channels through a Docker Container. Do you know if there are instructions anywhere on how to get Sling Free into my Channels program guide?

all I did was create a free trial account on Sling. Then used the TVE setup to add it to Channels DVR.
