Does Channels support file tags on Imported media?

I don't know how best to explain this but my TV shows and movies are tagged with for example like "Aaahh!!! Real Monsters (1994) {tvdb-71492}"

But it seems channels has issues with this or doesn't recognize this type file tagging.

Am I doing something wrong or does it auto discover at the end once it's done scanning?

According to this, it does

  • Imported file matching for movies will now:
    • look for IMDB IDs in filenames and use them for matching
    • look for {tmdb-xxxxxx} and {imdb-ttxxxxxx} in filenames and use them for matching
    • look for an .nfo file next to the imported file and look for entries for type imdb or tmdb

It mentions movies, but not TV shows. Am I correct in reading then this new feature only supports the discovery with movies?

Well it looks like something channels didn't like because channels crashed.

Was able to get it back up now it's scanning movies When it was getting TV shows before.

I believe it does support TV shows, but not TVDB. Only TMDB and IMDB are supported for metadata lookups. (However, that should not be causing a crash, so there's probably another issue going on.)

Yeah I think I'm going to leave my TV shows off for now, using TVDB has worked with all my other apps..so hopefully Channels adds TVDB support soon for TV shows.

We have no plans on adding TVDB support, and will continue to use TMDB when we finally switch over to canning in personal media tv shows with TMDB first.

For now, our gracenote scanner scans them in, with the ability to rematch with TMDB after it’s in your library.

That being said, we don’t support an IMDb scanner either, but we can use the IDs. So the same may go for TVDB IDs when we get there.

You mean with the ability to rematch by hand? That seems quite impractical for hundreds and hundreds of TV shows.

With you looking to introduce .nfo support, do you think this might help in the future for cases like mine?

I know you don't want to make promises for future features but just wondering thank you.

Use the plex naming convention and you wont have an issue. If you have a bunch of media you can batch rename with filebot where do I input script to fix plex naming? - FileBot

Pretty sure that Channels DVR still uses gracenote to match TV Show imports.
Meaning you need to use the S#E# as listed by gracenote, not the S#E# listed at TVDB or TMDB.
Unfortunately, it doesn't match using the episode title.
If this has changed, I'm willing to try importing my TV Shows again.

I'm using the Trash guide and it's naming convention for plex is tvdb.

I mean the gracenote scanner does pretty well. If there’s some reason you want tmdb meta, you have the option after to do it.

Have you even tried importing your tv shows yet?

There’s just currently some limitation to Channels that demands us to match with gracenote first for tv shows.

I have tried importing my TV shows and it just shows my file name not the name of the show.

aka Aaahh!!! Real Monsters (1994) {tvdb-71492}

For example.

Yeah, ok. Because it’s using all of that in the search query.

While we can’t immediately use that info, we could probably pretty easily ignore it for now, which would at least be something, until we utilize it.

If you use filebot and the plex naming format you wont have any issues. Filebot will rename to this format
/Frasier/Season 05/Frasier - S05E01 - Frasier's Imaginary Friend.mkv

Or if you can get your process to rename to this format that will work as well.

Although gracenote knows it's (1994)

you have to search without the year or use what it has (1997)
Capture
Why (1997)? :man_shrugging: Ask gracenote.

Something is something so I would be grateful if possible.

Thank you

I'll see if channels offers anything in the future like was mentioned, if not I'll look into this thank you.

I don't mind using two apps for now.

I export both my Movie and Shows folder to Plex. It will only recognize the movie or show names of some of the files. I don't have a problem renaming all the movies and shows using Filebot but will that require a database cleanup? i.e., do I need to manually delete the original filename or can I just rescan the directories?
