Does my Mac have to be logged in to access DVR & streaming

I am currently in Mexico. I was watching my DVR recording fine. Then suddenly, I couldn’t. I used TeamViewer to see what is going on and it seems my Mac is logged out (had the log in screen). I think the account is still “running” but just need to be logged into. Unfortunately, I can’t log into it with Team Viewer. It just shows me the log in screen.

So, the question is…do I need to make sure my Mac which is running the Channels software server is set so that it never logs out? If so, isn’t this a potential security breach?

Interestingly enough, I can download files from my account so am doing so to what some DVR, but baffled why I cannot remotely log into Channels. Again, it is that I am logged out (I think I have the system log out after so many hours)?

Yes by default you must be logged into the account where the DVR was installed.

Well, it seems to be working again, i.e. I can stream live and recorded programs outside my home to my hotel here in Mexico.

Maybe I need to be a bit clearer… I don’t think I am actually “logged out”. I have my Mac set up so that it requires a password to access after so many hours. I believe the account is therefore still active.

Does this make sense? So, in this case, it works. I just guess it depends on the strength of the connection.

I’m still a bit perplexed why I can’t use TeamViewer to log in remotely but only can see the screen, but I guess that will be a question for the TeamViewer community!

You didn’t really say what was happening when you tried to watch or connect to your DVR. I assumed you meant it wouldn’t connect at all, which would mean the DVR server wasn’t running (which happens if you log out of your user account on the mac).

Apologies for that. Should have been a bit clearer.

And, if anyone is interested, here is what you have to do to make TeamViewer work with Mohave (which I knew this before I left home!)
