Dolby Vision

Does Channels not support Dolby Vision for local content? I'm getting a green tint on the videos that I've imported.

It does not. That’s why you see that.

It’s something we hope to get going in the future. But devices like the Apple TV do not make it easy for just any video player to support Dolby Vision. There are hacks involved to make it work.

Got it. Thanks for the quick response.

I assume the same is true for the Shield Pro?

Use Infuse, it works everytime,

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but has there been any progress on this?

TBF, even if it's possible and easier to implement - Channels could just disregard the DV metadata and playback standard HDR or SDR it would be better than the green tint.

Doesn’t really affect me, but curious whether temporarily allowing the native player in special DV or other use cases would be something you guys would consider?

Thought I'd ask if any additional work has been done toward supporting DV. I didn't want to start a new thread, but found this one. I'm using Apple TV, so I understand that might be a bit sticky because of their implementation.

Is there an update?

I understand I could go to Infuse or some other program but I'm trying to keep my viewing within Channels.

Is just disregarding the DV metadata information possible so the picture doesn't look green/purple?

there is no good solution for DV/atmos/etc content in regards to streaming devices.

plex + custom mpv on an HTPC.

Why not? Other apps seem to do it just fine. If it's a licensing thing, could an in app purchase solve that?

Please give this a try:

Is Dolby Vision something readily available in broadcast television?

No, it would be for files you've added to your library

Looks like I'd need an iPhone or Mac device to sign up for beta, which I don't have, so I'll just have to wait for it to release in the main version.

This is great news I'll give it a try tomorrow and report back!

Is the Channels player on Apple TV on par with Infuse now, in terms what it can direct play?

Yes it should be. I believe we have best-in-class tone mapping for HDR, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision compared to Plex, Infuse, etc.

Confirming I'm in the AppleTV thread, but I have a question.. Is this working for GoogleTV devices yet or already and I just didn't know about it?

(I use Emby but am thinking of doing my local library via Channels for the fun of it)

This is awesome congrats!
