Don't understand limit feature in passes

FFX plays seemly endless reruns of The Simpsons and I'd like to keep 10 episodes on the DVR to watch at any time. I set up an advanced pass to keep unwatched only and limit 10 recordings. I also limit it to the FFX channel (Channel ==) and record the Simpsons series (SeriesID ==). I was expecting this pass to record 10 episodes then stop. If I watched 2 episodes tonight, then it would record 2 more shows to keep 10 episodes on the DVR and then stop recording more shows until I watch more. What it seems to be doing is recording all the episodes it can but only leaving the last 10.

What the pass is doing is ok but it is recording more than it needs to since it is kicking out recordings that I have yet to watch. Is this expected behavior?

You can add a limit by editing the pass on the web UI under advanced

That is what I thought I did.

Ooops. I accidentally posted the Family Guy pass but I have another one for Simpsons.

Edit: after checking my dvr my post was inaccurate and contained misinformation.

I think it's supposed to work the way @cyoungers described, but maybe there's a bug.

Right now how many unwatched episodes do you have, and how many are show to record in the schedule?

@Rice I can see the advantage to what you describe but I'd have to do a more controlled experiment to answer your question. In my case I don't really care which 10 shows are saved, just that I have 10 in the queue I can watch. If I've seen it before I just delete it and go to the next show.

Note also that the limit applies only to episodes recorded by that pass. So if you already had episodes from before or from other passes, those won't be included in the 10 limit. It will record 10, then once you watch/delete one, it will record another one.

@tmm1 I currently have 24 Simpson episodes on the DVR that were recorded from FXX (channel==6082). There are currently 10 recordings scheduled as shown on the Passes DVR UI.

However, if I go and click on the "10 recordings scheduled" link on that page, I count 14 episodes with queued status.

The schedule is what shows you what will record.

The queued status on the other page is a per-episode indicator. It doesn't mean it will record 14 times.

There are 10 entries on the schedule because your limit is 10 and its a new pass.

Ok, that was why I was confused. What I'm seeing makes sense now.
