Don't Update WD My Cloud to OS 5! (Updated)

Hello!

I was bombarded with notifications and emails today from WD to update my PR4100 to "My Cloud OS 5"... however, I'm glad I dug into it because buried deep in a Knowledge Base Article, Channels DVR is NOT supported. Not sure if the Channels folks can shed some light, but please do NOT update the good folks here confirm it's working. I'm so glad I checked.

Here's the link.

They are working on a OS5 version. I was in the WD Beta and was able to use Channels after they told me I could let the Channels Dev team know.

I had to replace my PR2100 under warranty right after the OS5 Beta ended but I kept my ChannelsDVR OS5 installer so I could reinstall once I get the replacement

AHHHH ok that's good news it's being worked on. Glad you kept that installer handy. Wonder when they plan on making it available?

Does it still have SSH and Docker available?

I'll add the OS5 package links to https://getchannels.com/dvr-server/#wdmycloud

Any implications to reinstalling this after an update? Or should it be seamless? i.e. will existing recordings, database content, etc, still be valid after the install?

SSH still works, but I don’t think Docker was working as of a month ago... that might be different now though. There might be posts in the community.wd.com forums

I didn’t have any issues with the upgrade. Recording and shares were all untouched. I did lose some custom scripts I had saved in my root folder, but it was just an rclone install/mount script I typed out to save time...

So is it safe to update my PR2100 to OS5? If so, what do I need to update to make channels run?

I don't know anything about OS5 and don't have a WD NAS. I simply converted our packages to OS5 format and uploaded them to our site.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'll hold off for now.

I did the upgrade! Had to restore the Channels DB and update to latest version (not stable), but everything came back and is working correctly.

Note: I use a PR4100

Thank you. Looks like Docker is now a standalone app. Confirmed working on the PR4100 and PR2100

Ah this is good news!! Thank you for all the quick work to get it updated @tmm1 and thanks to those brave souls who tried it first haha!

@tmm1, thanks for the new package. I haven't been able to get the Recordings to show in Channels again. Both the DVR and Storage Paths settings are the same as they were before. I've verified that the recordings are still there. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

You have to restore from backup. See https://getchannels.com/docs/articles/how-to/migrate-dvr-to-new-computer/

I was able to upgrade and restore from Channels backup - @tmm1 thanks for putting out the OS5 builds so quickly!

Just wanted to give you a heads up. I had to replace my PR2100 under warranty and I'm reinstalling OS5 on my replacement unit. I noticed in the OS5 Release Notes says that ChannelsDVR is deprecated and will not run on OS5.

Maybe this is an opportunity to add ChannelsDVR to the WD app library?
