Double Press L/R Action when not in commercial

Currently, a double press on the left or right edge of the touch surface of the Siri remote invokes an action only when playback is currently inside a detected commercial.

I suggest that, additionally, a double press L/R when playback is NOT in a commercial should invoke a user customizable skip duration. I’m thinking a range to pick from of 10 or 15 sec up to 5 min or so.

Since commercial detection isn’t available until after a recording finishes, being able to skip ahead a few minutes would provide a “less-accurate-but-better-than-nothing” alternative.

Thoughts?

This would remove the ability to succinctly seek N times in a direction the amount that seek is set to.

To put it another way, if click forward is 30s, and i know it’s 30s, and i want to skip ahead a certain amount…I know how many times to click to get there. To do something different would screw up the expectations. We’ve experimented with this in the past and it doesn’t feel great.

That being said, customization of seek durations is coming soon in the next release.

Ahh of course…hadn’t considered that case. I figured there was a reason this wasn’t in there already
