DRM channels / cable vs. YTTV

Just switched from a Spectrum cable card setup w/ SD HomeRun to YTTV. With the cable card, I was able to record HBO/Max and NBC channels fine, now they don’t show up when using YTTV as a source. I understand this is a DRM issue, but weren’t those channels under DRM on the Spectrum Cable card as well?

Just trying to understand why I was able to record them before but not now.

try using ah4c and a linkpi with onn pro boxes. I know it sounds confusing just think like a modern version of the good old days before cablecard when you used video capture.

Channels DVR can't record/playback DRM content.

If the channels were marked as DRM on your HDHR Prime tuner, Channels DVR can't play or record them using the HDHR Primer tuner as a source.

If you were able to record them using Channels DVR, then they weren't DRM protected by Spectrum.

When using YTTV (or any provider) as a TVE source in Channels DVR, it also cannot play/record DRM protected channels.

All NBC/Universal channels added DRM protection to their live website feeds (which is where Channels DVR gets the TVE streams from). You can watch them using a browser at their live websites, but Channels DVR cannot view or record them, so they were removed from the Channels DVR TVE channels listing.

NONE of the premium channels were ever on the Channels DVR TVE channels listing.

Here are the channels you can expect to see in Channels DVR using YTTV as a provider https://getchannels.com/docs/channels-dvr-server/tv-everywhere/availability/#YouTubeTV

Thank you that explanation, that makes sense. I did not have much choice but to pull the plug as cable card support from Charter/Spectrum in my area had gotten so poor, it was taking monthly tech visits and constant complaints to keep it working properly.

I’ll have to do some research on the ah4c and Link pi setup as a work around. Spent a few years toying w/ MythTV, was a lot of work to keep it working smoothly.

Actually with YTTV, I'd suggest ADBTuner instead of ah4c. YTTV supports deeplinks, which is where ADBTuner excels.

I use ADB Tuner with a couple of ONN boxes and it works great with Channels.
