Drm hell!

Well, it finally happen. My cable company (Spectrum) flipped the switch this week and all my channels are now DRM! I’m so upset!! My perfect Channels setup is no more! I don’t know what to do now. It was awesome while it lasted. Been looking at these streaming services but they can’t match Channels’ DVR! And a DVR from the cable company is $20 for EACH TV. So right now, we have no way to watch tv at all! SIGH!! Just had to vent for a second! Haha. Anyone out there been through this?

All of the OTA channels (and all of their subchannels) have no DRM and no plans to instate it. And they work great with Channels!

Go OTA and use a pruduct like DirecTV Now to watch cable and enable TV apps on your ATV. been doing it for almost a year and very happy. The majority of our DVR shows are from broadcast. the rest we catchup on using the various ATV network channel apps

That’s exactly my plan. I have a Hdhomerun Connect arriving tomorrow to record local OTA channels and I activated DIRECTV NOW a couple days ago. It suppose to add cloud DVR later this year too. So this may work until some how some way Channels can record/play DRM channels :grimacing:

I canceled Spectrum and retired my HDHomerun Prime. I now have two HDHomerun Connects for OTA using Channels DVR. I also have DirectTV Now. Couldn’t be happier now that Spectrum’s crappy TV service is gone from my life.

Yep! I’m canceling and returning all their crap TODAY!

But what do you use for internet? I’m in the same boat with Spectrum DRMing all channels, but they are the only option for broadband in our area. By the time I buy Direct TV Now and get internet-only from Spectrum, I’m paying more than what I am now.

I use Spectrum for my internet service. My only other choice is AT&T DSL. My Spectrum bill was $210 a month for internet, TV and phone. My bill now is $140 month for internet (300 Mbps) and Direct TV Now. If I dropped my internet to 60 Mbps I would be at $100 a month.

Just helped my Mother-in-law go from $290 per month with “everything” (Internet, TV, Phone) and 2 DVR’s with whole home service (including HBO and more) to $79 per month for Internet Only (200/20 grandfathered from TWC). Then added DIRECTV Now for $35 per month. She is pretty happy with the savings.

I should add she wanted to keep her land line phone number so we got OOMA. I have it for FAX Only and pay about $4.50 per month but she want the premier which is an additional $10. Could not convince her to just use her cell phone, YET.

$100 per month seems to be the sweet spot for combined TV and internet no matter how it is obtained. I battled with Com/Xfin to get down to that sweet spot. No doubt over the next year or so they will find new and improved unwarranted fees to claw more back. Dang them!

It is more convenient though for me to aggregate cable and OTA than streaming and OTA at this time so worth a few extra $$ for WAF.
