A very long while back I had seen issues with Channels and DSM v7 (Synology). I have avoided updating. I am currently still running DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 6. Are there still issues with channels and DSM v7+?
Anything I need to know before updating if I choose too?

Yes, but you'll need to download the new package for DSM 7, and migrate over to it.
You may find the instructions for moving Channels DVR Server to a new computer helpful. In your case, you're not moving it, but you are setting it up again from scratch while having an existing library.
That's not required. You can just upgrade to DSM 7 and things will keep working.

One other thing to keep in mind is that Channels DVR for DSM7 runs as Synology System Internal User channels where the old DSM6 version ran as user root.
So if you have additional storage directories or local content import paths defined, you need to give that channels user access to them.
