DVR Access Failure Request timed out

Hi

I am unable to use the remote DVR feature via your iOS app. When it attempts to authorise the below message is returned.

DVR Access failure
The request timed out

I can access my DVR remotely via the webui without any issues, after reading up some of the forum comments I believe it could be due to some form of DNS issue? But my knowledge of such things is rather limited. I have an Apple AirPort Extreme, and I manually set port forward to port 8089, which I guess worked as I have been able to access via the webui.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can resolve this issue?

Thanks

Martin

Does my.channelsdvr.net work for you?

No this does not work.

Try now

Yay, it works now, thanks so much.

i see you got him fixed, but i would like to point out for others that i’m running an Apple Airport Extreme router also, and i had to do ZERO configuration on my router to make Channels and Channels DVR work properly on any of my computers/devices both on the network, and remoting back into my network.

Having a similar problem. Get this URL and message: defacaf1085e.channelsdvr.net refused to connect. In the iOS app I get “DVR Access Failure: An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made.”

Any thoughts? Thank you, in advance.

What does it say in the Remote access section of the DVR settings web page?

Sounds like port forwarding is not working.

my.channelsdvr.net not working even though port forwarding is configured properly. I also get “DVR Access Failure: An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made.” On iOS. Please provide a fix.

Hi - I tried using the iOS App to remotely access TV shows. In the iOS app, I am getting an “DVR Access Failure - The request timed out.” When I tried accessing it from a web browser, that times out as well.

I did turn on Remote Access at home.

Note: When I tried accessing remotely from Plex before, I could not do so. I believe because I have a double-NAT. Does Channels work with double-NAT?

No double NAT will not work, and can cause all sorts of other problems. I assume you’re using a cable company router in front of your own router? You should be able to google to find out how to fix the double nat, usually by setting up a DMZ on the first router.

The first router being the cable modem?

Cable modems don’t usually have a router and do not cause double NAT. What model is it?

Arris TG2472G. Would setting it to bridge mode work as well? I have an Orbi hooked up to that. Then, all my devices are connected to the Orbi either via Wifi or ethernet.

Yes bridge mode should work.

Before I do that, will changing it to Bridge Mode deactivate the ethernet ports? My son’s computer is hooked directly to it via ethernet for his gaming.

I don’t know.

The other option you have is to forward port 8089 on your Arris to your Orbi’s IP, and then forward 8089 on your Orbi to your DVR.

The DVR is on my Mac, so does that mean forwarding to the IP address such my Mac is on? And then I would also think I would have to make the IP address on my Mac static?

Correct. You need to be able to connect from the internet to your mac.

The port forwarding did the trick. Thank you.

I was a bit hesitant to go into the routers and play with the settings, and even at one time when I hit Apply to confirm one of the port forwardings, I could not log back into the router! However, after about 5 minutes, I had access.

In case anyone is interested in port forwarding, here are some of the websites that helped me figure it out:
