DVR Keeps Crashing (v2017.01.17.2332)

Command didn’t work for me. It still updated to bad version so I deleted channels-dvr folder and attempted to run curl -f -s https://getchannels.com/dvr/setup.sh | sh to start over new/fresh but I get: Downloading Channels DVR 2017.01.14.0019 (darwin-x86_64) to /Users/richardhayles/channels-dvrmkdir: channels-dvr/2017.01.14.0019: Permission denied
ERROR: Installation of Channels DVR failed.

Working for me now.

Don’t run the server by hand, it will make a mess. It should not be run as root, and has to be run in a specific directory.

This is because the server is still running probably. You need to run ./channels-dvr/uninstall.sh first to stop it.

Working here as well. Back on 2017.01.14.0019 and it says things are up to date. Thanks for the late night fix!

Edit: One more restart and all is well. Spoke to soon again. :woman_facepalming:

Looks like I’m back to normal. Stopped the bad copy I had started before I looked here for help and then ran the fix. Up for 11 minutes now.

Hmm. There’s no such file or directory (since I deleted it). Now what?

What do I do to keep it from updating

Run this instead:

launchctl remove com.getchannels.dvr

You can run the fix now and it won’t upgrade to the broken version:

cd channels-dvr && ln -nsf 2017.01.14.0019 latest

Will this mess up my current recordings?

Recommend that everyone runs the fix command ASAP.

That did it. Thanks. Resetting everything back up from scratch again now.

Going to repeat, this is the best way to fix your setup if your server upgraded. If you do this it will downgrade to the known working version and you will not lose any data. Run this command over SSH or in Terminal:

On macOS or Linux:

cd channels-dvr && ln -nsf 2017.01.14.0019 latest

On WD:

cd /mnt/HD/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/ChannelsDVR/channels-dvr && ln -nsf 2017.01.14.0019 latest

On QNAP:

cd /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/ChannelsDVR/channels-dvr && ln -nsf 2017.01.14.0019 latest

On Synology:

cd /volume1/@appstore/ChannelsDVR/channels-dvr && ln -nsf 2017.01.14.0019 latest

On unRAID:

cd /mnt/user/channels-dvr && ln -nsf 2017.01.14.0019 latest

There seems to be an additional line you accidentally added into the command for the QNAP. Once we’ve done this, is there anything we need to do to restart the server? I’ve run the command, but still cannot access the web UI or via ATV.

Ran the fix but I am still seeing waiting to upgrade

That’s fine. If you ran the command you are safe.

Fixed.

You can try turning the server off and on from the QNAP app store.

+1 Waiting to upgrade how to stop that on UnRaid?

Thank you.

Running the command after turning off the sever via the app store, then turning the server back on seemed to do the trick. Thanks!

On unRAID:

cd /mnt/user/channels-dvr && ln -nsf 2017.01.14.0019 latest
