DVR link is incorrect

When I visit http://getchannels.com/dvr, I see the following link to my DVR app (running on My Cloud NAS):

http://dvr-MyCloud.local.:8089

However, ‘dvr-MyCloud.local’ does not resolve to anything. If I remove the ‘dvr-’ and just navigate to http://MyCloud.local.8089, it works fine.

I believe you’re using Multicast DNS to resolve these host names, so presumably the DVR app (or the MyCloud NAS) should be responding to ‘dvr-MyCloud.local’ MDNS lookups?

How about http://dvr-mycloud.local:8089 ?

I can verify that adding the “dvr-” in front of my server address causes it to not resolve. Capital vs. lower-case letters does not seem to matter.

Could be related (or at least indicate where the issue is)…

In my case I moved the engine from “centosvm” to “MyCloudEX2Ultra”.

Initially the webpage at https://getchannels.com/dvr showed "http://dvr-centosvm.local.:8089 " as the dvr location.

After moving the engine per the previous instructions everything seemed to move correctly and is working internally with the exception of the external getchannels.com/dvr page which is still showing the OLD link and not the new link,

Remote access and bonjour are both ticked enabled,

@dckiwi @rcgfl Presumably the Alpha app on ATV is working for both of you, which means the ATV is able to resolve the dvr-hostname.local address. I am not having any issues resolving on my network, from my Mac or iPhone. I tried with the DVR engine running on both a Mac mini and a QNAP NAS.

@photosmike is also having a similar issue (DVR on iMac), and the only common thing I’ve noticed is that all three of you have capital letters in your hostnames. Will see if I can reproduce the issue with a capitalized hostname.

@TeddyR Your issue is an unrelated display bug. I will fix it shortly.

@tmm1 you are correct; no issues with the alpha ATV app. I’ve always connected to the DVR web interface via servername.local:8089 vs dvr-servername.local:8089, so I never noticed the issue until I read this post.

On the settings tab, does it list a single IP under the “Bonjour” checkbox? Or are there multiple in there.

I just tried changing my hostname to “TestBox”, and was still able to access dvr-TestBox.local. In fact, when I enter that into Chrome or Safari, it automatically changes it to be lowercase.

What browser/OS are you trying to access the dvr-hostname.local address from?

Also try unchecking and rechecking the Bonjour option on the Settings page to see if that helps.

@TeddyR The issue you were seeing has been fixed.

I was able to reproduce the issue with capitalized hostnames. The bug has been fixed and a new build will be available in the next hour.

Thanks. I have been experiencing this problem with the alpha for some time. Just last night I was working through test cases in preparation for reporting the issue here. At a high level I couldn’t access the server using Safari on my Ipad using the dvr link while on my local network. Went to the Mac Server and was able to bring up interface and schedule recordings. Went back to iPad, hit refresh and drv link resolved and server interface came up. Server or Mac were not updated, rebooted, etc.

I’ll retest tonight after the update.

I can confirm this now works for me.

Fixed for me too, thanks!

Woohoo!

Thanks for reporting and the help tracking it down.

Looks ok for me as well. After update I was consistently able to access via safari on iPad using DVR name. Worked last night and this morning.

I had the same problem today setting up dvr on raspberry pi. New version 3 pi. Fresh install of latest raspbian. Could not reach the dvr settings until I changed the url to exclude dvr- at the beginning of the address. I tried the chromium browser directly on the pi and then Firefox from a laptop on my network. Neither worked with the dvr- prefix

On the DVR web UI, what does it say under the Bonjour checkbox?

Was the ATV able to find the DVR?

I did not see a Bonjour check box on the web UI, per haps I missed it, where should I look on the page?
The apple TV did find the DVR. There are now tabs in the channels app for DVR and Recordings. Both are empty as I have yet to set up any recordings.

The bonjour setting is on the main web UI of the DVR.

Does the dvr- hostname work now that things are setup? What kind of computer/browser were you using to access it?

Bonjour box is checkmark. Yes now that things are set up I exited and tried to access via the dvr- prefix and was able to access the web ui and make changes. I was on an old laptop with Windows XP. Browser was recent version of Firefox
