DVR Logic

I have both an HDHR Prime and Extend. Is Channels “smart” enough to know that if I am trying to record five shows at once with two being on the local network and three on cable only networks to divide the work accordingly or will I need to specify channel usage for each show?

Not exactly, but you CAN prioritize tuners. So to get the strategy that you want, set your Extend to the top of the list. That way it will try that tuner first for your recordings. It will fail for the cable channels and roll over to the Prime, leaving it free for the local network recordings.

In the Channels DVR web ui, click the gear icon next to your devices and choose Adjust Priority. Then drag them into the order you’d like.

That’s exactly my setup with a CONNECT and a PRIME. It has worked great. I’ve also gone ahead and deleted/blocked my local channels from my cable provider on the PRIME device. This way I’ll only be able to record the higher quality over-the-air signals. The only disadvantage being if I want to record more local shows than I have tuners - so far, that hasn’t happened

Slick. Thanks!

Thanks for the response. This is my first Fall without satellite in about 15 years, with SAT I had up to 7 tuners available, so I am trying to prepare for what is coming, I don’t want to miss my favorite shows, the networks seem to put everything I like on 2 or 3 nights and at the same time, so simultaneous recording is an important issue.
