I have recorded a few episodes of things trying out the DVR. After deleting the recordings in the app I have noticed that my hard drive still shows they are using the space but there is no recording there. They are not in the trash on my PC. Are the deleted the recordings moving somewhere else? Or are they actually deleting? This is the only thing located on this drive.
Channels has a Trash feature to protect you from accidents.
When things are deleted, they are placed in the Trash for a period of time before they are deleted from disk.
You can adjust the period in your Channels DVR Server web admin settings.
I have cleared the trash in the app. I am curious if even after doing that if the files still remain for a time?
Check your logs. It’s possible it’s some kind of permission issue. But if they are recordings, then write permissions should be correct.
The logs should report issue delete by things.

Sorry to ask but how do I do that?
If I did it correctly this is what it shows.

But the drive shows no freed up space.
Is the file gone? I would confirm with that. There’s a million reasons drive space reporting could be iff a little or delayed on modern systems.
I’m not sure how you’re qualifying storage space changes.

It doesn't show the files on the drive that I deleted. So assume its gone. I will power cycle the computer. And as far as qualifying storage space, do you mean in what is used and what isn't? If that is the case each recording was 1.5 gb. Total of 3.1 gigs should have been freed up when I deleted and empty the trash. But it shows that the same amount of space is still used by the recordings. And thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.
What are you running Channels DVR Server on?
Perhaps it has its own recycle bin and the recordings are in there.

Its a windows 10 PC. It is not in the recycle bin. I did check that hoping it was there but it isn't. Didn't know if there was a trash bin folder in one of the channels folders but I couldn't find one.
There is no Trash bin in Channels DVR.
It just marks the recording as being trashed, lets you see it in the UI under Trash and then deletes it from the disk when you empty its Trash or the retain time passes. The recorded file on your disk isn't actually deleted until then.

I am probably going to delete all the test recordings I did last night and see what happens. And that good to know. I just figured Id look through the folders since it wasn't in the bin.
This sounds like an issue with your operating system and not a Channels issue. I’m gonna close the topic.
