DVR settings

Anybody on my lan can access the Channels DVR server, if they know the ip address. Why isn't the server password protected?

The general thought is that since you control your home network, you are only allowing clients onto it that are trusted.

If you wish to segregate or secure your network, there are other options available, such as firewalls, packet filters, network segmentation, access controls, etc.

Seems like overkill for a LAN server. A simple password option would be easy enough. Doing a whole network reconfiguration is a bit much, seeing that my network is running smoothly. A login isn’t much to ask for.

Also some people may not have full control over their LAN, if there using an internet providers hardware.

are you worried that someone will watch the Gilligan's Island 3 hour tour marathon on Me TV without you? who cares, its tv. there is no need for complexity.

If you only have sarcastic stuff to say, you should probably keep it to yourself.

It’s a legit feature to have.

And for the record, stop trying to be funny, keep your day job!

Anyone on your internal LAN can access the server you run Channels DVR on if they know the IP address.

It's protected during remote access, not many users have a need for that on their internal LAN.

If you're that concerned about it, run Channels DVR in a Docker container and change the exposed port number to something other than the default.

You could also firewall access to that port and allow only the internal IP's you want to access it.

Docker container? Mac mini

Specific IP's is assuming everything is setup with static IP's, which would mean that I would need to get MAC addresses from any guest that I allow access to my network, way to time consuming for someone is just visiting.

Not sure why you would allow guests in your home access to your internal LAN if you don't trust them. Create a guest wifi with no LAN access and have them use that to access the Internet.

It sounds like you're requesting User Profiles be added. Channels already has client profiles and KIOSK and KIDS modes. I don't think the devs are looking to add User Profiles with usernames/passwords.

User profiles is a different topic, which I have touched on in another post.
Segmented wifi, yup have that.
I just think that password protecting a direct connection to the dvr server, just makes sense.
