DVR web client not responding

I am running Channels DVR on a Mac Mini for a few weeks and going well. An hour ago I tried to access it via the web interface from Firefox on my Windows computer, and was just getting a spinning wheel and nothing rendered. I tried it a few times to no avail over an hour period. My Apple TVs and iPhone could play Channels fine, but web interface was dead. I then tried remote access to the Mac Mini and found that there was a dialog box up prompting to upgrade Java. After I cleared that dialog I was able to immediately access it from my Windows computer. Does this make any sense, and is there a way to prevent it from occurring? I wouldn't think an unrelated dialog prompt would block web access.
